Andrew Hirst has undertaken a wide range of tasks in the field of painting conservation throughout his career, perhaps more diverse than many of his contemporaries. He has treated easel paintings dating from the 17th to the 20th century, wall-paintings, sculpture and painted/gilded surfaces (objects and historic interiors) dating from the 15th to the 20th century. Through the past 16 years he has developed considerable knowledge and expertise in the modern science of the conservation treatment of paint and paintings using a wide spectrum of materials and techniques. Through his initial training as a painter, strong interest in science, subsequent training in conservation and restoration (in workshop, college, university, museum and private practice contexts) and experience, he is confident and capable of providing a professional conservation service of a high standard. Andrew Hirst has carried out conservation work for museums, galleries and private clients, through insurance companies and for public bodies including the National Trust, English Heritage, Historic Scotland, Cadw and Monuments Historique. All projects undertaken are accompanied by written and photographic documentation.Quotations are provided following examination but estimates can be given from photographs and full description.
